The Zen Dilettantes (ZD) is a jazz ensemble featuring the talents of some of central Texas' finest jazz artists. With a classic lineup of vocals, saxophone, keyboard, upright bass, and drums, ZD will provide a delightful evening of members' original compositions and some favorite jazz standards.

Arrive early - food service starting at noon and throughout the day will be available by Smoke in the Hills.

Included in the evening's lineup:

Jacqueline Sotelo (vocals) -- A much sought-after professional jazz singer, Miss Sotelo is a regular feature member of San Antonio jazz combos and big bands. A native daughter of San Antonio, she studied music composition at University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) and later earned a Master of Music (M.M.) in jazz studies at University of North Texas (UNT).  She hosts a weekly "Women in Jazz" program on KRTU 91.7 jazz radio.

Mark Pomerantz (keyboard) -- Teacher, composer, pianist, arranger, conductor, and music copyist, Mr. Pomerantz is currently a senior lecturer at UIW, where he teaches music theory and aural skills. He holds a Bachelor of Music in theory/composition from Sam Houston State University and a M.M. in theory and composition from Texas State University. He is also a regular feature member of many of San Antonio's jazz combos and big bands.                

Dave Deering (upright bass) -- A versatile musician who performs regularly on both bass and bass trombone, and for jazz, classical and theatre  productions (including the Victoria Symphony since 1998), Dave studied music performance at UNT. 

Roger Escobar (saxophone) -- Mr. Escobar holds a degree in jazz studies from Texas State University, and is a Certified Music Educator in San Antonio, TX. He runs his own jazz combo, the Blue Route Jazz-Tet, and is a featured performer in many area jazz, funk, soul, and theatre bands.

Aaron Walker (drums/percussion) -- Mr. Walker was a student of the late Clyde Lucas (who had performed with the Count Basie Orchestra, Illinois Jacquet, and Ray Charles) and of Joe Morello (with the Dave Brubeck Quartet). He performs regularly with area jazz combos and big bands, as well as funk, rock and country acts.
